Hey ShojoBeat Fans!

June always has me in a mix of feelings. I like my freedom and not doing anything, but at the same time I get bored easily and really need something to occupy my time!

Luckily, I have friends and some great Shojo manga to spend my time with!

Inspiration for the month: Freedom, heat, job, celebration, watermelon.

Manga of the Month: "The Earl and The Fairy" by Ayuko. (Concept by Mizue Tani)

Phoenixofdarkness62 "The Earl and the Fairy" is yet another supernatural fantasy, however by no means does it blend in with the various other titles in that genre. Lydia Carlton is a fairy doctor in rural England, a location that is popular among the genre. She sees various mythical creatures , but very few believe in here and even less are in need of her services as a Fairy Doctor. Her services are needed however by the recently re-appeared descendant of the blue Knight, Edgar. With her trusty fairy friend, Nico, this is where the story begins. To be a touch clique, things are not at all how they would seem, but unlike many shojo heroes, Lydia is a fairly independent and strong heroine. She does not give into the charms of Edgar, and keeps her eyes on the endgame, rather then getting detracted. She can't save herself every time, but she saves Edgar just as much as Edgar saves her. It's a very equal balance between the two.
Although some events are type casted to fit with the plot line; there's enough mystery, a decent plot with little deviation from the intial goal, and suspense, along with just a touch of romance here and there to keep it engaging.
The Art is rather typical of shoji, big eyes and smooth lined heros. The period clothes are accurately depicted, and never over the top. All the creatures Lydia encounters are unique and stand out amongst the humans, creating a very nice diversity in the cast. The backgrounds are not nearly as awe inspiring as other works, but each have their own perks and detailing.
Overall, given it's genre, 'The Earl and The Fairy' is a very interesting take on the supernatural, and almost romance.
*I managed to be a bit more in depth this time with my review to give you guys a clearer picture on the manga. I hope to do more reviews like this in the future.
